Restaurant: Truck Stop
Address: Level 1, Beach Road Hotel, 71 Beach
Road Bondi Beach
Cuisine: Japanese-American Fusion
Social media has become an increasingly powerful marketing
instrument – with the exception of Instagram where people are claiming to
abandon it once its new “regulation” takes place next year. When finding out
about TruckStop from twitter, we want to try it out immediately because we LOVED
the food from Eat Art Truck mmmm… the pulled pork....
It took us awhile to
find this restaurant, which is located upstairs of Bondi Hotel, we circled the
downstairs bar in search of TruckStop, after failing to locate the restaurant,
we asked a barman (which is probably what we should have done in the first
place). But us silly girls should have read the address correctly which clearly
stated LEVEL ONE.
Gotta love this spacious venue! Sometimes dining in tight
places makes the dining experience less enjoyable, though often the quality of
food compensates it. We were greeted by friendly staff who explained to us that
the foods are meant to be shared. Just from looking at the menu, it reflects
what ex- Tetsuya sou-chef Stuart McGill is famous for – Japanese-American
Fusion!
As we were told that the food are for sharing size, when this dish came, we were quite surprised as it was rather small (don’t let the picture fool you). The flavours were refreshingly light and the tofu was silky smooth.
This was highly recommended by one of the staffs, it is
fried chicken two ways – Southern and Japanese. Sometimes ordering fried
chicken is a risk because it might end up really dry, but this is definitely
not the case for TruckStop! The meat was succulent for both versions, I can
keep eating it all day! The Southern styled chicken was a tad spicy and the
Japanese version goes well with their sauce. This dish is definitely a must
try!
The prawns were perfectly cooked, too bad there’s not too
much to share amongst the four of us. The corn bread was moist, light and
delicious.
We were only told
after we finished the prawns that the coddled egg for dipping the prawns! We
didn’t know how to share the egg, so we all just politely left it there – next
time we’ll know what to do with the egg..
Oh pork belly – I love you so much that nearly everytime I see
it on a menu I have to order you! The meat was tender and the fat just melts in
your mouth. The sweetness from the molasses was a good match with the pork
belly.
If you like your peppers (capsicums) then this is your dish!
I only have a TINY bit of the peppers puree to try the taste and unfortunately
it repeated on me the whole night :(
I’m so glad that Eat Art Truck permanently stopped its “branch”
here, as much as I like the trucks, it can be inconvenient to go to if it’s raining (like the
day we went to TruckStop). This is a great place for a casual dinner especially
if you are going with a large group! And ordering that fried chicken is highly
recommended.
So.. Does capsicum repeat uncomfortably on you like it does
to me? Or is there other foods that will make you repeat? And... are you going to abandon Instagram ?
Xx
Feli
